(AFI) in Hayward, CA started in 1995 as the first company in the Bay Area to specialize in firestopping. As a registered minority owned company, AFI has successfully served the firestopping and insulation needs of Northern California for over a decade. The company specializes in firestopping, acoustical and thermal insulation, fireproofing, joint sealants, and spray-on insulations. AFI is considered to be one of the best contractors for any size OSHPD project or quick turn-around tenant improvement projects. They work on educational facilities, hospitals, and commercial and multi-use buildings—including apartments and hotels. AFI prides itself on its safety record; each of its crew members are OSHA 10-hour trained. With an emphasis on safety, AFI has one of the lowest accident ratios in the industry. When any of the general contractors in the Northern California area win bids for medical facilities, AFI is the first choice for all firestopping and insulation needs. Medical facillities tend to be the most difficult and technical projects to work on due to rules and regulations. AFI overcomes these challenges by leveraging automation, experience, and their commitment to safety and quality. It is one of the few design-build hospitals in the state. The double story, state-of-the art hospital provides a variety of services, obstetrics, nursery care, level III neonatal intensive care, medical and surgical services, compre- hensive cardiac services, supporting ancillary services, and a full range of womens reproductive health services. Due to the uniqueness of the project, all contractors involved had a vested interest in ensuring the success of SMC. AFI's work history of on-time delivery and quality workmanship enabled it to be the natural choice for the general contractor working on SMC. AFI was involved in the project in every aspect of the construction. As a result of their attention to detail and commitment to safety, AFI was contracted to provide firestopping and insulation services for all trades including mechanical, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and sprinkler systems.
